Bruno’s Miracle: Breathing New Life in Ruhija

In the quiet hills of Ruhija, Uganda, there lives a little boy named Bruno. For a long time, Bruno could barely walk or play like other children. Just a few steps would leave him gasping for air. The local medical team told us his condition was serious — a shadow on his lungs, they said, and it was likely he would not survive.

But then, love prevailed.

When Darren Joyce, one of our team members at Harris Institute, and his wife, Stefanie Joyce, our Chief Operating Officer at Harris Institute and President of Compassion Collective Alliance, met Bruno, their hearts were deeply moved. Darren saw something in Bruno — a spark of life worth fighting for. Without hesitation, he chose to sponsor Bruno’s medical care, determined to give this precious child a chance.

After seeing a specialist, the truth came to light: the cyst on Bruno’s lungs was benign. There was hope! Darren then ensured Bruno was taken to a surgeon, and the cyst was successfully removed.

Today, Bruno is breathing freely for the first time in years. He’s slowly regaining strength, laughing again, running after his friends, and joining in the joyful play of childhood that every child deserves.

His transformation is nothing short of a miracle — one made possible by compassion in action.

We are filled with gratitude for people like Darren, whose kindness turned despair into hope and gave Bruno the gift of life.

It’s amazing what one person can do to change — and even save — a life.

Will you join us in writing more stories like Bruno’s?

Your support for our orphan care at Project CCA in Ruhija, Uganda, helps children like Bruno not just survive, but truly live.

Together, we can turn love into action — and hope into healing.
