Faith in Action: Transforming Lives, Solving Problems, and Forming Future Leaders
Our colloquies are more than gatherings for thoughtful conversation. While we engage important questions about faith in the public square and discern what the Holy Spirit is doing in the world, we also believe that faithful reflection must lead to faithful action.
We are committed to being God’s hands and feet in the world—empowered by the Holy Spirit to serve, solve problems, uplift communities, and develop future leaders. Through the generosity of Harris Institute Fellows and public supporters, we are witnessing tangible transformation across continents.
Together, We are Making a Difference
Access to Medical Care: $1,500 Raised for Medical Supplies
With your help, we have raised support for essential medical supplies for our medical mission in Ghana. These resources help address immediate healthcare needs and improve the quality of life for vulnerable individuals and families.
Solving Water Scarcity in the Mountains of Ruhija, Uganda: $2,700 Raised for Two Water Tanks
In the mountainous region of Ruhija, Uganda, access to clean water remains a daily challenge. Harris Institute Fellows raised funds to install two water tanks at Hope Villa Nursery and Primary School, providing a sustainable solution for rainwater collection and storage. This project will improve health outcomes, increase school attendance, and ensure that children no longer have to go down the mountain to carry water back up to drink, wash, and cook. They will now have greater access to safe water just outside their living facilities!
Addressing Period Poverty: $2,000 Raised for hundreds of Reusable Feminine Hygiene Kits
Period poverty continues to prevent many girls from attending school consistently and limits opportunities for women in rural communities. It prohibits single mothers from consistently working to support their families. Through your support alongside the Harris Institute Fellows, reusable feminine hygiene kits will solve a healthcare challenge for students at Hope Villa Nursery and Primary School and members of the Seeds of Hope Community Women’s Group in Ruhija, Uganda. This initiative promotes dignity, health, education, and economic empowerment.
Caring for Our Community: Fellows Benevolence and Support
The Harris Institute is a global community built on relationships. When members of our community experience hardship, we respond. We demonstrate our commitment to our community of learning by walking alongside one another in times of need and times of celebration.
Investing in Future Leaders
Ghana Educational Pilgrimage and Mission Sponsorship
Members of the Harris Institute Fellows are sponsoring a participant in the Harris Teen Forge (HTF) young men’s mentoring group to join our Africa Educational Pilgrimage and Mission Experience. Through cultural immersion, service-learning, leadership development, and exposure to global perspectives, this young leader will continue to gain life-changing experiences that will shape his future and expand his vision for serving the world.
Our Global Impact is Growing!
Total Funds Mobilized
$12,000+ Raised and Invested in Community Transformation and Leadership Development
These efforts represent more than dollars raised. They represent:
1. Children with access to clean water.
2. Girls empowered to remain in school.
3. Single mothers supported in their efforts to provide for their families.
4. Communities receiving medical support.
5. Fellows caring for one another.
6. Young leaders gaining global exposure and leadership formation.
Looking Ahead
The Harris Institute remains committed to cultivating leaders, building global relationships, and solving practical challenges facing communities around the world. Whether through educational pilgrimages, global colloquies, mission partnerships, or community development projects, we believe the Holy Spirit continues to work through ordinary people who are willing to say yes to God’s mission.
As we gather to discuss the future of faith in the public square, we also remain committed to embodying that faith through action.
The world is our classroom. The world is also our mission field.
Together, we are learning, serving, leading, and transforming lives.
Ghana Educational Mission (July 6-16, 2026)
As many of you know, we originally planned two international experiences this summer: the Ghana Educational Pilgrimage and the East Africa Mission Trip. Due to the recent Ebola outbreak in East Africa and out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our delegates, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s East Africa Mission Trip. As a result, our summer focus will be fully centered on the Ghana Educational Pilgrimage.
While we are disappointed that we will not be traveling to East Africa this year, we are thrilled to announce that we have expanded our work in Ghana beyond the educational pilgrimage to include a meaningful Medical Mission! This exciting addition will provide our delegates with an even greater opportunity to make a tangible difference while learning, serving, and building relationships across cultures.
We are especially excited to partner with Grace Compassion International, a respected Ghanaian NGO led by Dr. Grace Darko, a distinguished Harris Institute Fellow. We are also delighted to share that Dr. Monica Baker, a physician and dedicated servant leader, will be joining our team in Ghana to help lead this important medical outreach.
There is still room to join us, and there is still time to register. If you have been considering this journey, I encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Together, we will explore Ghana’s rich history and culture, engage in meaningful educational experiences, serve local communities, and participate in life-changing ministry.
We are also deeply grateful to those who have already contributed to support the medical mission. Your generosity is helping us bring essential care and resources to communities in need. Through this outreach, our team is planning the following opportunities:
1. Screening for non-communicable diseases, including hypertension and diabetes.
2. Basic maternal and child health assessments and wellness checkups.
3. Distribution of basic medications and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) supplies.
4. Community health education focused on sanitation, preventive care, and healthy living.
This promises to be an extraordinary experience of learning, service, fellowship, and impact. We look forward to sharing this remarkable journey with you and witnessing together what God will do through our collective efforts in Ghana.
We hope you will join us: July 6-16, 2027.
The water tanks are installed in Ruhija, Uganda!
