NHCLC Names Criminal Justice System Director Dr. Antipas L. Harris to head efforts to address racial disparities in the system

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC), announced that Dr. Antipas L. Harris has been named to the newly established position of Criminal Justice System Director. He will represent the NHCLC as the liaison on criminal justice reform by working with Congress, the Executive branch and emerging coalitions for the purpose of advancing reforms that immediately address racial disparities in the system and recognizes the image of God in all.

“Criminal justice reform is a necessary step in healing the divisiveness in our country and addressing racial tension,” said Rodriguez. “As President-elect Trump makes his cabinet choices and sets his agenda for his first term, we want NHCLC to have an influential voice in working to ensure more equitable polices and legislation are put in place that address the heart of the problem.”

Reports indicated that Trump is open to discussion about reforming the criminal justice system.

“I am grateful for the pleasure of representing the NHCLC as the liaison on Criminal Justice Reform,” said Harris. “It is a blessing to serve alongside Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriguez in this new role as the NHCLC continues the prophetic work of advocating for righteousness and justice for everyone.”

The NHCLC/CONEL is the world’s largest Hispanic Christian organization, which serves as a representative voice the more than 100 million Hispanic Evangelicals assembled in over 40,000 U.S. churches and hundreds of thousands of additional congregations spread worldwide throughout the Spanish-speaking diaspora. Seeking to reconcile evangelist Billy Graham’s message of salvation with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s march of prophetic activism, the NHCLC emphasizes “7 Directives” of Life, Family, Compassionate Evangelism, Stewardship, Justice, Education and Youth.
